I have extensive experience in counseling clients in all areas of intellectual property law transactions and business disputes, including serving as lead counsel in lawsuits involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, unfair competition, deceptive trade practices, false advertising, internet domain name registrations, internet defamation and disclosure of trade secrets. I have represented clients in lawsuits and business negotiations involving "works of authorship" such as software, music, jewelry, fiction and nonfiction texts, videos, photographs, and sculptures.
I have also assisted clients with the protection and enforcement of a number of processes and devices, ranging from consumer products, construction devices, explosives detection, boatlifts, and exercise equipment to "mad cow" detection devices, to name just a few. In addition to infringement cases, I have handled a wide variety of business disputes, including allegations of theft of trade secrets such as customer lists and technical know-how, breach of non-compete agreements, unfair competition, fraudulent business practices, disputes involving license agreements, and breach of contract.
My experience and knowledge allow meto effectively and efficiently represent myclients, from preparing and responding to cease and desist letters all the way through trial and appeal in all Florida state and federal courts. I serve both as an arbitrator and as an advocate in front of arbitration panels. I have successfully resolved numerous matters prior to either party filing a lawsuit, saving substantial amounts in legal fees and costs. I also assist my clients by negotiating licensing agreements and assignments covering all forms of intellectual property, as well as drafting a wide variety of agreements and contracts.
I am active in local, state, and federal bar associations, having contributed to publications and being invited to present continuing legal education courses to other intellectual property attorneys. From 2009 to 2011, I served as the Chair of the Hillsborough County Bar Association's Intellectual Property Section. As a member of the Florida Bar Intellectual Property Committee, I have served on a subcommittee to prepare and propose formalized case management rules for patent cases in the District Courts of Florida. I regularly contribute articles to local and statewide legal publications on intellectual property developments.
